Wrapping Up, Part Two: A Final Word to Attendees

Did you know there are over 90 committees? Committees address everything from politics and professional development, to event planning, leadership, our environment, and more! If you’ve thought about serving on a national committee, head on over to NAR’s website, search “committees” and take a look. Talk with your local and state leadership about serving. Appointments for 2018 have been completed but 2019 appointments will be open before you know it.

To wrap up my blog for this year, I wanted to share a few more committee notes with you:

From Business Issues Policy committee: A RESPA update included the words we all need to remember: never take anything for free from lenders. Director Cordray of the CFPB may be running for Governor in Ohio. The hope here is that this organization will be run by a panel, not an individual. (Something we’ve been saying since its inception.)

From State and Local Issues Policy committee: Discussions continued here (as in other meetings) on short term/vacation rentals, rental registries, and rent control/review boards. Their legislative priority document brought up water rights and signage issues as well as the ongoing discussion on professional services tax.

The Consumer Communications committee continues to review our message to the public and the value of using a REALTOR®. Advertising targeting the millennials is leading to higher click thru rates. There is a lot of great information online at nar.realtor/adCenter.

The Commercial Legislation and Regulatory Advisory board looked at quite a few topics including tax reform and protecting 1031 exchanges. They also discussed internet sales tax fairness and an extension to the EB-5 Immigrant Investor program.

Again, these notes are just the tip of what happened in Chicago. Now, a final word to conference attendees:

Share what you learned with other agents in your office and on your social media. Write up some blogs (this is GREAT consumer info), throw together some videos, create an email to your client base. Do whatever you want but SHARE. Write up a report and send it to your local association and ask them to share it in a newsletter. Don’t keep it to yourself!

Thank you, Chicago, for an amazing conference!! Now—on to Boston in 2018!
